Mr. Dipankar Talukder, MP, Honorable State minister of MoCHTA is delivering his chief guest.

Green Hill organized an inauguration ceremony of “PROGGATI” (Promoting Good Governance among Tribal Inhabitants) project with financial assistance from UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF) on 20 February, 2011 in the conference room of Rangamati Hill District Council.

The Honorable state minister of the CHTs Affairs Ministry Mr. Dipankar Talukdar M.P was the chief guest and Mr. Nikhil Kumar Chakma, Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council was the special guest at the ceremony.

The Upazila Council charimen, headmen, karbaris, local NGO representatives, journalists and different civil society members, about 70 in number, from Rangamati Sadar, Kaptai, Jurachari and Bahgaichari Upzila’s people also participated in the program.

 

The chief guest addressed that “hill people are dominated by “muscle power”. As a result traditional and local leaders like chairman, member, headman, karbaries were powerless and unable to play their due role in their respective areas. He also said that empowerment of people and better coordination of development activities were the main theme of democracy. Headman, karbari and the people should inform of any projects undertaken by LGED, district council, upzila council, union council etc. to ensure coordination.

Mr. Probortak Chakma, Jurachari upzila council chairman, in his speech as special guest said that, lack of good governance at the centre will have negative impact at the grassroots level. He also mentioned that traditional leaders should be involved in promoting development activities.

 

Mr. Moung Thowai Ching, the Executive Director of Green Hill presided over the function and Mr. Lal Chhuak Liana Pangkhua, the Program Manager of the project, facilitated the program.
